Two 17-year-old males have been arrested and charged in relation to the early morning attack on a 32-year-old man in Havelock North yesterday morning.

Hawkes Bay Police said in a statement that the two teenagers were arrested this afternoon and charged them with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Both will appear in the Hastings District court in the morning.

The incident occurred at about 3:50am yesterday when the victim was standing outside the clock tower, public toilets on Te Aute Road, central Havelock North.

Detective Sergeant Craig Vining said: "The two men are known to one another but did not know the victim, who remains in hospital.

"It was heartening that the public rallied around the victim and contacted Police with information so quickly, which has assisted in the charging of these two men."
