Hawke's Bay's top basketball team will pay nearly twice as much to play home games at the Pettigrew-Green Arena during this year's National Basketball League season.
IMS Payroll Hawks general manager Tanya Dearns said costs to hire the Taradale arena on game day could rise by up to 90 per cent.
"We are now being charged at a commercial rate because of the way they have structured their fees process."
She said the "worst-case scenario" would be a 90 per cent hike if the team uses all the arena's facilities but the organisation is looking towards volunteers to help cover the costs.
"For us it means we need to generate enough revenue to cover the costs. Fortunately, in the past we have had some help with gaming funding and figures crossed we will be able to use that again this year.
