Police were last night searching roads in and around Hastings for a car involved in a high speed chase which had to be abandoned on a main road through the city.
The chase was understood to have started when a car containing 3-4 people failed to stop at a checkpoint in Havelock North, about 8.20pm.
Witnesses saw a vehicle travelling at well over a 50km/h speed limit on Havelock Rd towards inner Hastings. "It must've been going, like, 95km/h," one said
Senior Sergeant Dan Foley said that due to the speed, erratic nature of the driving and danger police withdrew from the pursuit, but were later still looking for the car, thought to be a green Hinda Accord.
