A 29-year-old Dannevirke man accused of telling a police officer he would find his children and "skin them alive" has been jailed for nine months.
Namana Tehiko Bell, 29, was sentenced in the Napier District Court yesterday after unsuccessfully defending a charge of threatening to do grievous bodily harm arising from the incident in February.
Court summaries say Bell became abusive towards a police constable after being pulled over in Dannevirke's Cole St just after 9am on February 9.
He had told the officer to "get f****d" and refused to supply his driver's licence. He was later arrested after becoming increasingly aggressive and then pepper-sprayed.
At the police station he had told the constable: "Keep your kids close. I know where they go to school and I'll skin them alive".
