Independent trustee
The Maori Land Court in Hastings will meet on June 7 to decide on an independent trustee charged with the job of building new governance and management models for the Tataraakina C Trust, which is in charge of administering Maori land near Tarawera, on the Napier Taupo Rd. The court this week finished a two-day sitting to hear from former and current trustees over the problems stopping the trust from realising the potential use and returns of its land. Part of the court action centred around the appointment of former Act MP Donna Awatere-Huata as the trust's executive officer. At the court sitting, trustee George Sullivan said he did not attend an interview meeting between trustees and Mrs Awatere-Huata because he was uncomfortable with the process the trust was using to hire a new executive officer.
