It's time to get on your bike and celebrate Bike Wise month, Sport Tararua's recreation adviser Natarsha Nikora says.
Kick-starting the Bike Wise events in the Tararua is Cycle to the Cinema on Sunday, February 19, at the Regent Theatre in Pahiatua.
"This event will include a free screening of Puss in Boots; Prey for Mercy for anyone who cycles to the cinema. Tickets are limited so you must give me a call to reserve your ticket," says Miss Nikora.
"Also, on the Bike Wise Tararua to do list, is the Mayoral Cycle Challenge, Tararua Kid's Triathlon and Pedal to the Pool on Saturday, February 25."
These events will be combined into one day at the AMP Wai Splash Community Pool in Dannevirke.
"This is a day not to be missed. Everyone on his or her bike, scooter or pram is welcome to join Mayor Roly Ellis as he takes you on a family-friendly cycle," Miss Nikora said.
Registrations for the Mayoral Cycle Challenge open at 9.15am with the cycle starting at 10am.
Children keen to enter the Kid's Triathlon are encouraged to register early.
"Registrations for the Kid's Tri are now open and available from all Tararua District Council service centres, Bush Sports Park, AMP Wai Splash Community Pool, Activate Gym and your school office. You can enter as an individual or as a team and, remember, it's about having a go and it's lots of fun," Miss Nikora said.
The grand finale to complete the month's events is a free barbecue, with all children taking part in the Pedal to the Pool in Dannevirke able to swim for free between 1pm and 2pm.
This year, for the first time, children aged between 5 and 7 are also able to register for the events.
"Bike Wise Month is set to be a fun-filled cycle mad month for Tararua, so pump up your tyres, oil that chain and bring all your family and friends to the events," Miss Nikora said.
