A Bay View couple say at least three people would have been needed to wheel away their chicken coop that housed Harriet and Henrietta.
Tony Thompson says the distinctive coop with a new iron roof was taken from their Taranaki Rd backyard on Friday night during the torrential rain that battered the region.
"They took the whole thing, lock, stock and barrel," he said.
Mr Thompson called the police who told him it would have been the best time to pinch anything as it is less likely they would be heard.
His wife Jan Thompson confirmed this theory and said they both "didn't hear a thing".
