Jimmy Kimmel is trying to keep today's Oscars show on time - and he's giving away a prize to make it happen.
Today's 90th Academy Awardss is underway in Los Angeles, and the ceremony is known for being one of the longest, often going for more than three hours.
Kimmel, today's host, unveiled an incentive to winners to keep their speeches short and sweet - a $17,999 green jet ski.
"This is not a joke, I will be timing you," said Kimmel, as Helen Mirren helped him show off the jet ski.
"Why waste precious time thanking your mum when you can take her for a ride on your jet ski?"
Kimmel later said his deal wasn't being taken seriously, so he sweetened the deal with a two-night stay at Lake Havasu.
The shortest speech so far had been 36 seconds.
Elsewhere in his monologue, Kimmel gave a joking explanation for last year's flub that saw the best picture award incorrectly given to another movie.
"I've not told this story in public. This is true. Last year, about a week before the show, the producers asked me if I wanted to do some comedy with the accountants and I said, 'Nah, I don't want to do comedy with the accountants'. So then the accountants went ahead and did comedy on their own."
To ensure it doesn't happen again, the comedian told the audience of A-Listers: "This year, when you hear your name called, don't get up right away, we don't want it to be a whole thing," he quipped. "We can't ruin this year, it's a big one."
He also mentioned Harvey Weinstein and the #metoo movement,
"What happened wtih Harvey was long overdue, the world is watching us, we need to set an example," said Kimmel.
"If we can stop sexual harrassment in Hollywood, women will only have to deal with it everywhere else they go.
He then joked: "Here's how clueless about Hollywood is with women. We made a movie called What Women Want and it starred Mel Gibson."
Kimmel's opening monologue was applauded by viewers.
