Lorde off to the movies after tour triumph

Hot on the heels of finishing her international tour, Lorde will jet to London for the premiere of the new Hunger Games film, before heading back to the US for the American Music Awards.

The Grammy winner, who turns 18 on Friday, played the last show on her 86-concert world tour to a hometown crowd at Auckland's Vector Arena on Saturday night.

While her manager Scott Maclachlan was tight-lipped last night about details of upcoming birthday celebrations, he confirmed the Devonport teen would attend the world premiere of the third Hunger Games film, Mockingjay - Part 1, next Monday.

She'll then perform her new song, Yellow Flicker Beat, at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on November 23.

During Lorde's Saturday show - for which 7000 tickets were sold after performances in Wellington, Dunedin and Christchurch - she gushed about how exciting it was to be back in the city.

And last night she posted on Instagram: "Last night, I played the last show (possibly ever) to support Pure Heroine. We finished in my hometown, and I felt so full and so loved, and so lucky. To everyone who has come to the shows this year: THANKYOU.

"You have given me an opportunity to learn and grow like no other - from starting off the year at the Grammys absolutely terrified out of my mind, to being happy and at ease in a packed arena, we have grown together."

She added: "You'll be seeing me before the year is out - I will be performing yellow flicker beat at the AMAs ... but i wanted to express my gratitude to you for filling these rooms and dancing with me til the clocks run out. lots of love to you from the beach and the fog."

In between shows on tour, Lorde has been working on curating the soundtrack for Mockingjay - Part 1.

The film - which features her new song and an unnamed track done with Ariana Grande and Diplo - has been picked to bring in US$130 million ($166 million) during its opening weekend at the box office.

According to Forbes, it's also expected to bring in the most business of any movie this year.
