A man has been arrested over an assault in south Auckland which left another man with life-threatening head injuries.
Adam Benefield, 24, was attacked shortly after leaving a family house on Sapling Place, Pukekohe, in August around midnight on August 1.
He was found unconscious on the road outside a block of shops at the intersection of Princess St and Beatty Rd by members of the public who reported hearing yelling and seeing people running from the scene shortly before he was discovered, police said.
Mr Benefield, from Otaua, suffered life-threatening injuries in the assault. He spent two months in a head injury rehabilitation unit. He was discharged on October 8 to continue his recovery at home.
This morning police said they had arrested a 16-year-old in September and charged him with assault.
