Zoomy has unveiled a partnership with Corporate Cabs that will add 350 vehicles to the smartphone taxi-booking service.
Zoomy launched last November and the iPhone and Android application lets users order, track and pay for a taxi journey on their smartphone. More than 20,000 people have downloaded the app and many are "active users", according to Zoomy co-founder James Fisk.
The company will today announce a partnership with Corporate Cabs across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Fisk said the deal would add at least 350 cabs to the network of taxis that accept jobs through Zoomy, bringing the total close to 1200 nationwide.
Over 800 of these drivers are in the Auckland market, which Fisk says is more than 20 per cent of the 3500 taxis operating in the city. Fisk said the partnership with Corporate Cabs would offer additional benefits to the app's existing users and help attract new customers.
"It provides a premium experience to our passengers," Fisk said. "The convenience of Zoomy of being able to order a taxi at the push of a button without having to go through a call centre and being on hold and then to be able to see the taxi coming towards [you] on the map is perfect for business users who are in office blocks and don't have to wait on the street."
Zoomy earns its revenue from taxi drivers, who are charged a fee based on the size of a fare.
