GOSSIP:

But reports now say that Miller was ditched from the project because she was too young, thin and gorgeous.

the love scenes between him and Sienna would have been laughable

.

He's so old and fat and she's so young and gorgeous.

It's just ... gross."

Put down the phone, Crowe. Reality check: so Miller's out of the picture - literally. Call me cynical, but something tells me that this well-placed source is from Miller's camp: I mean, who else would impart with a retaliatory "he's so old and fat and she's so young and gorgeous?" Damage control if ever I saw it.

Reports

surfaced in December

that Crowe had been told by Scott that he was too fat and needed to shed the love handles for the role of Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham in the movie. But it looks as though Crowe's failed to shed the excess baggage in time.

"Originally the movie was about a love triangle between Maid Marian, Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham," the snitch adds.

"It is now all about Russell's Robin Hood. Literally, 40 pages of script were redone and now are just devoted to him and his massive ego. It's amazing."

Paunchy grandpa...

Word is that producers are "looking for an older, plumper actress to play the role so [Crowe] doesn't look like a paunchy grandpa. Someone in her late 30s or early 40s."

Page Six also claims that Crowe has been plotting to get Scott fired from the production. And that "calls were made to several prominent directors over the holidays to find a replacement. "All of this was done behind Ridley's back," the snitch said. "He has no idea."

Miller's mouthpiece has reportedly confirmed that the starlet has indeed been dropped from the production, but is "fine" and "about to sign onto two other movies" - but would not comment further.

A studio rep played down the pesky Internet rumours and insisted "

Nottingham

is moving ahead with Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott."

Not Maiden material?

So is Miller the latest casualty of Crowe's burgeoning ego? Or, was she, as the

Mirror

claims, ditched from the flick because of her party girl image and a backlash against her affair with

Balthazar Getty

?

A snitch tells the tabloid: "Sienna's image just wasn't right, especially after her controversial affair with Balthazar Getty."

"Unfortunately for Sienna, her reputation in the US has been tarnished by people branding her a marriage wrecker while she had just landed the part of a virgin-like maid."

Miller nabbed the role last June, and said at the time that she "could not have a better part... it's happening. It's the most exciting news in the world."

Quite the scandal. And remember, this is merely the pre-production stage. Can you imagine what the set's going to be like? Hell to the hole.

But say what you like about Crowe and his yo-yoing waistline, you can't deny that he's a formidable acting talent. It's just a shame that his ego precedes him.
