The detour for State Highway 2 through Te Puna has been put on hold.
The Transport Agency began trialling the detour today but due to significant delays for motorists has postponed the detour.
They would be reviewing why such delays occurred and a new detour plan.
The detour involved removing southbound light vehicles from the site to give the construction team better access and allow them to seal the road more quickly.
Heavy vehicles were using the state highway route. Te Puna shops and the local area, including bus stops, could still be accessed while the detour was in place.
The new two-lane new roundabout will replace the Te Puna/Minden Road intersection, which was expected to significantly improve safety for motorists travelling on the route.
