Two large works of art are in store for the Domain Rd interchange on the Tauranga Eastern Link.
On either side of the Domain Rd interchange on State Highway 2, currently under construction, new structures will be installed to mark the bridge as the eastern gateway to Tauranga.
On the northern side of the road, two spinifex structures will be seen by people travelling east, representing the seaside and the beach. On the southern side, a pa structure will be built which draws on the history of the Papamoa Hills pa sites.
New Zealand Transport Agency's TEL senior project manager Wayne Troughton said the art works were being installed to enhance the traveller's environment.
Mr Troughton revealed the design for the artwork at a media tour of the site today.
Tauranga Eastern Link is expected to be completed sometime next year.
