The Last of Us Remastered
From: Naughty Dog
For: PS4
Last year, The Last of Us was released on the PS3 in the twilight of the console's tenure and showed what the PS3 is capable of: some of the best graphics seen in a game that accompanied a storyline worthy of any Hollywood blockbuster. Had The Last of Us been the last game to be released on the PS3, the console would have gone out on the highest note possible.
So why feel the need to try and improve what is already pretty much the perfect game? According to Sony, most PS4 owners haven't played The Last of Us, so enter stage left - The Last of Us Remastered.
The power of the PS4 takes this game to a level I wouldn't have thought possible - the graphical quality of cut-scenes are now present throughout the game itself in all its 1080p glory. The phrase "it's just like playing a movie" gets bandied around all too often in the gaming world, but never before has it been so deserved.
But do people want to shell out another $75 for a prettier game? Probably not, so extra value has been added by including all the original game's DLC including the "Left Behind" expansion. Extras such as a photo mode let you freeze the action at any time, and there are cut-scene commentaries from the voice actors and developers.
Then there is the multiplayer which, when all the teething problems are ironed out, should provide yet another reason to own this first-class game.
This is a game you must own even if you've thrashed the original. It's a thing of beauty.
