Youth prevailed over experience as 65 golfers swung into action in the second Manawatu-Wanganui Eagles Golfing Society fundraising golf tournament for the year at Belmont on Sunday.

The Eagles Society raises funds for the Halberg Disability Sports Foundation's community trust and $2400 was added to the kitty at Sunday's event hosted by the Wanganui Golf Club.

Wanganui teenager Fergus Smith claimed the division one crown with 41 Stableford points, while 10-year-old Feilding golfer Remy Early won division two also with 41 points, beating experienced Wanganui golfer Alistair Murdoch on 39 points.

The pair went into the mix for the Eagles Pewter Mug for overall player of the tournament and the trophy went to 9 handicapper Smith on countback.

Early, who plays off a 35 handicap, also had the distinction of beating his father who scored just 30 Stableford points in division one.
