CrossFit Whanganui had plenty of success at the Bad As VI women's open lifting competition in Petone at the weekend, including a victory for their best athlete.
Ten women from the club, including eight first-timers, attended the competition, hosted by the Mad CrossFit gym.
They took part in back squat, bench press, and clean & jerk events, with the top performers recognised by weight lifted per kilo of bodyweight.
CrossFit Whanganui's Jazmin (Jazz) Hepi was the overall winner.
She cleared 72.5kg on the bench press and made personal best lifts in the back squat (127.5kg) and the clean & jerk (85kg), with the latter being the heaviest lifted on the day in that event.
"Jazz Hepi has been training with us at CrossFit Whanganui for a year and has thrived over that time," said proud coach Matt Rayner. "We had some pretty awesome results.
"Of the 10 athletes we took to Petone to compete, there were 15 PBs across the three lifts.
"The organisers gave us the 'Spirit of Bad As 6 award'."
Fellow club member Karli Kaea-Norman was fifth overall, making a personal best in the back squat (110kg), then clearing 67.5kg in bench and 65kg in clean & jerk.
Rayner also praised newcomer Jen Kara-Dixon for setting personal bests in all three of the disciplines.
The other CrossFit Whanganui women to compete, who all made at least one PB, were Sharee Newton, Hayley Morris, Sarah Johnston, Megan Wallace, Lucia Gribble, Nikki Matuschka and Alex Webster.
