Wanganui East ran down their batting target against Marist with three balls remaining on a good day for cricket at the Cullinane Oval.
Marist had lost three early wickets, before Campbell Mckerras (29) and Luke Bullock (19) steadied the ship with a partnership of 59 which took them through to 80.
Bowlers Angus Mason (1-7), Luke Bullock (2-12) and Elise Kara-Maclachlin (1-7) bowled good containment, but not enough to prevent Wanganui East making the runs.
Over at Huntley School, the Teachers team, known as the Haberdashers XI took on the 1st XI in their annual fixture, although to lower their average age to below 50, and get some mobile fielders, the staff did ring a couple of students, on their way to a one wicket win.
Humorously, the 1st XI never really got a chance to get going with constant interruptions in the form of refreshment breaks for the Haberdashers.
They made 76 with top scorers being Curtis Heaphy and Matthew Hocquard.
Notable bowling performances were by director of sport Reynolds Rowe and "self-proclaimed ex professional" Mr Buys, after loose bowling from Mr Woods nearly let the game get away.
The Haberdashers never looked comfortable in the chase, as WRFU development officer Justin Lock was a ring-in and opened the batting with a snappy 16 before retiring hurt.
The game was in the balance with wickets tumbling regularly and a couple of teachers not troubling the scorers, along with some fine catching in the field from Shaun O'Leary - son of Mr O'Leary of the Haberdashers - and tight bowling from Henry Strang and Fred McVerry.
It was left to ring-in D Hall and headmaster Sam Edwards to shoulder the responsibility and power some well struck boundaries in the last few balls to bring the Haberdashers home.
