ONLY a year into his new sport, Wanganui's Tim Warren is already dreaming big.
The 19-year-old took up bodybuilding last year and is already collecting trophies. Warren has claimed first place at the Taranaki championship, second in Wanganui and third in Hawke's Bay all in his debut year of competition.
The Countdown employee trains twice a day, six days a week at City Gym, where he was first introduced to the sport. "I always liked to have size on everyone, have muscle," Warren said. "I signed up at a gym and the guy there was a bodybuilder and he suggested I start competing, so I just started."
He's taken to it well and has plans to get involved in the bodybuilding scene in California.
"I love it, yeah it's awesome. Just how hard it is, having to be able to push yourself to get to that next level," Warren said.
"Just because all the big guys, the world champs are there (California), I'd like to meet them." One of his inspirations is four-time Mr Olympia winner Jay Cutler.
The Wanganui man is now gearing up for the nationals in Auckland in October.
