Wanganui's Jessica Watkin has been named Young Player of the Year for the Central Hinds in the Central District Player of the Year awards.

Now a regular starter for the Hinds in her second season of women's inter-association cricket, Watkin fits travelling for those games in-between school cricket for Wanganui High School and senior-men's club games in the Porter Hire Premier 1 competition for St Johns Tech.

For the Hinds, the all-rounder Watkin scored 220 runs at an average of 20.00, took 13 wickets with her spinners and made five catches in the field.

Hinds captain Kate Broadmore was named Player of the Year for the form which earned a recall to the White Ferns, having scored 608 runs at an average of 67.55, while also taking eight wickets and four catches.

Taranaki's Tom Bruce, who learned his cricket at Wanganui Collegiate, was named Most Improved Player for the Devon Hotel Central Stags after their final Plunket Shield game against Wellington at McLean Park in Napier on Saturday. In seven Plunket Shield games, Bruce scored 632 runs at 57.45, including his maiden first-class hundred and six half-centuries.
