The Wanganui C Grade team have fought their way into this afternoon's National Squash Superchamps final after some tough action in pool play.
Entering the tournament in Taumarunui as second seeds due to their top three players having advanced to B grade level, Wanganui defeated Christchurch 5-0 and Northland 4-1on Wednesday.
They then defeated the unbeaten Auckland 3-2 in a tight tie of games on Thursday, which booked them into today's final regardless of the result of their last pool fixture against Waikato yesterday.
Coach John Roestenburg said the extended Wanganui squash team's record stands at 23 wins and one loss as they try to win their third national title in four years, having previously been New Zealand champions in E and D grade level.
The final will be played at 2pm, and many local squash players were making the trip to support the team.
