Lisa Latta is loathe to split her two runners in the Listed Civics@Cambridge Thoroughbred Lodge Wanganui Cup tomorrow.

The Awapuni trainer saddles up China Star and Five To Midnight, who both come into the 2040m race on the 53kg minimum.

Both gallopers have raced in illustrious company during their brief careers and both arrive with form on the board.

Five To Midnight only just got nabbed late in the piece to finish a close up third to subsequent NZ Cup winner Pump Up The Volume in the Listed Feilding Gold Cup last start, while his stablemate ran second to the promising Art Deco in R85b company fresh up.

Five To Midnight looks a real stayer of promise.

The Domesday four-year-old raced with distinction against Xtravagant last season and was beaten a lip by Jacksstar in the St Leger in March this year.

China Star, by Chinese Dragon, has also been mixing it with the best and her runs last season included the Group 2 Travis Stakes, Group 2 Rotorua Cup and Group 3 Manawatu Breeders Stakes.

"I am very happy with the way both horses have come up this time in and track conditions will not worry either of them even if rain arrives," Latta said yesterday.

The track was rated a Dead (5) yesterday, although the odd shower is forecast.

Asked if she was prepared to split the pair Latta was quick to respond.

"Like I said, I am very happy with both horses. They have both raced in top company."

Topweight Overtheriver is an extremely consistent galloper, but this will be his first foray over middle distance.

In fact, the son of Mettre En Jeu has never stepped out further than 1650m for trainer Kevin Myers and owner Dan O'Leary of Balmuse fame.

The six-year-old, however, has proven to be O'Leary's own private ATM winning 12 of his 40 starts and placing 11 times for just shy of $195,000 in stakes.

The 60kg must be a concern, but with Johnathan Parkes in the saddle he will be far from a forlorn hope.
