Even Hemi taking 3-28 for Tech against United did not secure his spot.
"Hemi has been struggling of late with his fitness and has been asked to go away and fix that part of his game," said Bannister.
"Trillo has been told to give himself a good 12 months to develop his game, score some hundreds and develop his bowling before being considered for future rep honours."
Hemi and Trillo still fronted for squad training this week, impressing Bannister, but it was Kinnerley who was truly disappointed to "get the tap on the shoulder" to say he was also missing out, just as Slight had been until the last-minute decision to switch.
Therefore, with the bowlers bearing the brunt, the expectations to prove themselves fall on the batsmen, such as veteran Dominic Rayner, who despite a run of low scores will open with Dominic Lock, who could also use a big score. John McIlraith saved his place with a great allrounder effort in Bayer Marist's win over Matt Burke Engineering Marton Saracens.
Only getting the ball when Todd Inness was removed for bowling beamers, McIlraith took 4-29, then scored 82 not out as opener.
Bannister said McIlraith will be tried down the order to keep him away from the new ball.
"Two or three players in the starting 12 have been told that they need to put some good performances up this weekend otherwise they will be asked to move aside to give others an opportunity for the remaining matches after the Christmas break."
Captain Henry Collier, who scored a match-saving century in the draw with Manawatu two weeks ago, made it clear that when facing a fellow minnow team like Wairarapa, it was time to perform.
Bannister said: "The guys mentioned, it wasn't even me bringing this up, that this defines their season. We're developing an environment that is seeing players competing for places which can only hold this team in good stead going forward."
While Wanganui have not had their professional Ben Smith due to Central Districts duties, Bannister is happy to make that trade given Wairarapa are unlikely to have strike bowler Seth Rance, who was in excellent form during the Georgie Pie Super Smash and bagged nine wickets when Wanganui lost to the visitors by six wickets last year.
Tomorrow's game was originally scheduled for Marton's Centennial Park, but delays getting the pitch ready saw play returned to the Tasman Tanning No1 pitch, with Lock as groundskeeper having about 10 days to prepare. The two-day game starts at 10.30am.
