The under-18 Secondary Schools development Tournament wrapped up yesterday with the T20 and One Day (40 over) finals at Tasman Tanning Victoria Park.

In the morning T20 session Wairarapa edged Taranaki in the final chasing down Taranaki's 78 with two balls to spare. After losing two early wickets in the chase, Sinead Barrell and Gemma Sims anchored the innings with scores of 21 and 15, respectively.

In the playoff for third Hawkes Bay hammered Manawatu chasing down the required 65 inside 12 overs with only one wicket down.

All four teams were back in action in the afternoon with Hawkes Bay carrying over their form in thrashing Taranaki in the 40-over final.

Hawkes Bay won the toss a chose to bat, scoring 147/6 in their 40 overs. In reply Taranaki were never in it as Hawkes Bay bowlers Rosemary Mair and Cate Pedersen had Taranaki 5/5 after 4 overs. Taranaki never recovered, eventually all out for 17.

Wairarapa and Manawatu played off for third with Manawatu winning by seven wickets inside 20 overs.

A Central team will now be named to compete at a North Island U18 tournament against Auckland, Northern Districts and Wellington in the capital on January 16-20.

The Whanganui Festival of Cricket now moves on to the New Zealand Under-15 girls competition starting on Monday with Central Districts hoping to defend their title against all five other associations.
