NOT EVERY top seed emerged unscathed to make the semifinals of the Boys and Girls 12 and 16 years tournaments at the Slazenger Wanganui Junior Open at the Basset St courts yesterday.

In the Girls 16 years, Manawatu's Charlotte Williams upset No1 seed Marie Reid of Kapi-Mana, 5-7, 6-4, 10-2 in the super tiebreaker.

That puts Williams into today's final four, joined by No2 seed Grace McLean, Wellington's Maggie Dai, and Tessa McCann, who is making her long trip up from Ashburton worth the effort.

There was a minor upset in the Boys 16 years, as No5 seed Jin Dassanayake defeated No4 seed and fellow Hutt Valley player Timothy Purchase 6-3, 6-1.

The other semifinalists are No1 seed Milo Benn, brother Satchel Benn (both Wellington), and Hutt Valley's Trent Young.

In the 12 year Girls, the semifinalists are Claire Brownlie (Lower Hutt), Nikayla Barnard, Olivia Cook and Ella Rogers.

The 12 year Boys final four are Thomas Dai (Wellington), Trent Bolton (Wellington), Shane Colton (Wairarapa) and Callan Hughes (Hutt Valley).

Wanganui's players unfortunately were all eliminated in the early rounds.
