The Wanganui Hockey season concluded this month with the junior representative teams competing in their respective tournaments.

At the Under 13 Boys Hatch Cup tournament in Timaru, Wanganui U13 finished tied for ninth with Wellington after a 2-2 draw in their playoff game.

Earlier in pool play, Wanganui beat Horowhenua 4-3, Wairarapa 3-0 and Central Otago 3-0, but lost to Hawke's Bay 2-0 and Otago 4-1.

They then went on to beat Northland 2-1 and Manawatu 1-0 to make the playoff for ninth with Wellington.

Captain Connor Hoskin scored eight of the 16 goals by Wanganui at the tournament, while Joel Clark and Alex Luff-Scott got three each.

The Wanganui Under 13 Girls played the Collier Trophy in Palmerston North and finished tied with 17th with South Canterbury after a 2-2 draw in their playoff.

Wanganui had 1-1 draws in pool play with Hawkes Bay and Central Otago, but lost to Bay of Plenty 2-1, North Harbour 4-0 and Otago 2-0.

They rebounded to beat Marlborough 3-1 and Eastern Southland 2-1 to meet up with South Canterbury.

Charlotte Baker was top goal scorer with three of her team's 10 goals, while captain Maddie Reid got two goals.

The Wanganui U13 girls also went to the Rawleighs tournament in Stratford, finishing third of the eight teams from the Central North Island.

Meanwhile the Under 13B Boys team entered the regional Curtis Cup competition in Levin.

They finished fourth after going into extra time with Rangitikei and being beaten 5-4 in a penalty shoot out.

However, this represented a big improvement given Rangitikei beat Wanganui B 10-2 in a previous warm up match.

In another good recognition for tournament week, Whanganui's William Houquard was selected to attend the Curtis Cup as an umpire and later chosen to officiate the tournament final, where Wellington B bt Manawatu B 3-2.
