The open class 520m greyhounds make a welcome return to the Friday racing action this evening.

It is a tricky looking field, evened up by the draw, who the starter will dispatch at 8.39pm (Race 10).

The Lisa Ahern-prepared Timma Turtle holds the key to this event.

He owns a slick 29.94s best winning time around this circuit and going close to that time should be sufficient to see him being required to stand on top of the post-race podium.

Kennelmate Sheer Miss has lost her open class grading, but that certainly doesn't detract from her stakes earning claim here, especially after being allocated the one-trap to step from.

She owns solid looking stats from that desired draw.

Another Ahern-trained contender is the promising Frappucino, however he must step away smartly from the awkward five-trap here.

Cawbourne Clover has regained form for Matt Roberts.

Sure, last season's NZ Oaks runner-up is returning from the C3 chasing ranks here, however her proven form when contesting previous open class events here says to consider her.

After competing in recent 305m sprints here, local conditioner Freddy Kite is stepping Sedgebrook Magic back up to 520m racing.

His known early pace can make things very interesting for a long way.

Kite's daughter Suzie has also returned her charge Making Time to form in the lower grades.

Again, it's her early pace that can become a factor in the outcome of this paw-wrestle.

It's also a tidy looking field of open class sprinters who will contest the Race 11, C5 305m dash.

Subic Bay has been thriving on his double dose of weekend sprinting that Ahern has been setting him.

Lately he has won the Hatrick C5 Friday 305m sprint, then he has stylishly prevailed in the Manukau C5 318m Sunday dash.

He must hop away smartly from the six-trap here.

Kennelmate Allegro Class is a classy, proven Hatrick sprinter and he is resuming from a spell here. Drawing trap-two is likely to assist him.

Ahern dominates this sprint as she has also accepted with the capable sprinters Allegro Boom, Smash Allegro and Cranky Pants.

Looking to foil the Ahern domination here is Kite Senior, and he can do so with his sharp sprinter Sedgebrook Babe.

This girl will step from the ace-trap and her record from there says she is a distinct stakes earning prospect.
