Sunday was a very tough day for the Wanganui tennis team at the Tennis Central Hexangular in Wellington.
In the morning, the Wanganui team took on the defending champions from Kapi Mana in the last pool play round.
Wanganui's women played particularly well in this fixture, picking up most ofthe points with Paris Butters and Dana Hiri having wins in singles, while Dana Hiri along with Sean Edmonds and Karen Cranston with Gene Ridgway picked up wins in the mixed doubles.
But this was not quite enough, with a seven matches to five defeat to Kapi Mana moving Wanganui in to the fifth-sixth playoff match against Taranaki.
Taranaki with a strong team won a close battle seven matches to five to place Wanganui in to sixth position.
Nick Caton had a great win in two close sets to finish the weekend with two singles wins and one loss.
Edmonds had a very long and close singles match in the men's and Tara Butters showed plenty of fight once again when she replaced an ill Cranston in the ladies singles.
A good weekend, Paris Butters showed she is now a real force to be reckoned with in the Tennis Central region with many good victories, while Hiri pulled some form from the past out of the bag to pick up a number of good wins in fine style for singles and doubles.
