On course patrons at Hatrick last Friday witnessed a very special performance when the classy greyhound Thrilling Boris handed out a chasing lesson to his Group 1 rivals in the Hatrick Classic.

Thrilling Boris went into the $25,000 event under an injury cloud following his battling fourth in the previous week's 520m heat.

Back muscle soreness, after an early racing incident, was the reason for that 'sub-par effort' after his slick prior 29.71s Hatrick 520m win.

Trainer Karen Walsh worked tirelessly on her charge's back and it was only two-days before the decider when she was confident about Thrilling Boris taking his place in the final.

Thrilling Boris took the race away from his rivals when he produced a searing first sectional which set up his superb 29.56s winning gallop.

Walsh was also rewarded by kennelmate Timmy Trumpet finishing a bold second, three-lengths behind.

The dominance display by the Walsh prepared runners was clearly illustrated by the seven length margin back to the third placed finisher Berridale Lad.

Thrilling Boris's trainer and owner Gary Harding has since decline an invitation to contest the A$145,000 Temlee event at Group 1 level in Melbourne next month.

"We want to aim Boris for the Auckland Cup and the New Zealand Derby. We'll look at an Aussie campaign after those races," Walsh confirmed.

This evening's feature Hatrick 520m race is the Wanganui Chronicle for the open class greyhounds (Race 10).

It features last Friday's brave Hatrick Classic fourth place-getter Absinthe Minded, who has drawn nicely in trap-two.

He backed up his Friday effort with a bold second in Monday's $5,000 Auckland Anniversary Day Cup at Manukau over 527m.

Looming as the biggest challenger to the Lisa Ahern trained chaser is his kennelmate Bigtime Jason.

Paul Dozer can spice up the race combos following his midfield placing in Friday's Group 1 event.

This field represents an easing in class for this Angela Turnwald-prepared greyhound, who commences this evening's meeting with 99 winners for the season listed beside her name.

Ahern is making it a no race in the national Trainers' Premiership having already mentored 326 winners which sees her maintaining a decent lead over the perennial premiership winner John McInerney, who commenced yesterday's racing sitting on 265 training successes.
