Three women join field for rugby job

Applications have now closed for the role of chief executive officer of the Wanganui Rugby Football Union.

There were 16 expressions of interest, with 10 being considered, from as far away as the United States and Qatar. Others were from Australia and New Zealand.

Three are women and two have been in the chief executive role with other unions.

A three-man independent selection panel will consider the applications on Tuesday.

"They will narrow it down to a very short list," said acting chief executive JB Phillips.

The shortlist will then be considered by the WRFU at its next meeting, on January 27.

The appointment will be announced shortly after, with the successful applicant starting on March 3.

The vacancy comes after Dale Cobb resigned in October, after six years.

Meanwhile, Jordan Farrington has resigned as community rugby development officer.

He was in the job for four years but has taken up a role with St Peter's School in Cambridge.
