The stories can get pretty long in the tooth at the annual 2015 NZME Golf Tournament for Businesses.

Held yesterday at the Castlecliff Golf Club and hosted by the Wanganui Chronicle staff, 17 teams took part in the four-man ambrose tournament.

Claiming a 54 handicap, the Property Brokers team were getting into their round when the reporting team rolled up in a golf cart.

First, the tall tale, like how one drive bounced off the top of two buildings, ricocheted off a third and then bounced into the hole.

Then, the reality, the team had enjoyed a birdie on the 16th hole.

"It was my drive, so that was pretty impressive," said Mark Lowry before lining up another shot.

Team Challenge Castlecliff carried the day with a score of 52.75.

The winners were Shane Larkin, Saia Fisilah, Anthony Larkin and Ivan Broughton.

Second place with 54.00 was the David Jones Motors team.
