INDOOR BOWLS: Wanganui's Shane Broderson almost had a New Zealand title to his name on Saturday night. Broderson played superb indoor bowls in the post-section in the New Zealand junior singles playoffs in Auckland ? but couldn't make up for giving final opponent Brent Keen (Georgetown Club, Southland) a start. In aclose encounter Keen got away to the best start to lead 7-3 after eight ends. From that point on he played cover bowls which only allowed Broderson to score single shots and went on to win 9-5. In section play Keen beat Allen Kannewischer 12-5, Keiron Latimer (Horowhenua) 19-5, Erin Mikoz, Wairarapa 15-7, and drew with Aimee McCartain, Auckland 4-4. In post section he beat Shaun Blackbourn (Waikato) 12-8 and in the semifinal, Tim Veale, (Manawatu) 20-5. In the other semifinal Broderson beat last year's runner-up Callum John, Thames Valley 11-9.
