The Wanganui Squash Club finished its season on a high with the finals of the club championships at the weekend rounding off a great year.

Played over two weeks, the championships featured doubles, masters, veterans, graded cups and junior grades hard on the heels of the Wanganui C Grade Men's team winning the National C Grade teams event.

With club honours at stake, there was a good amount of competitive games and hard-fought matches.

Awards of particular note went to Brett McKenzie, who took out the C Grade Mens, Rod Bannister who won both the Men's Open and Masters Trophy, and Kaylee Te Ngahue, who made a clean sweep of the Junior Girl trophies, winning the most improved Junior Girl, Best J Grade Girl and the under-19 Junior Girl's trophy.

Other trophies earned from the year's efforts were awarded to Dave Campbell, who was given the Achiever's Award, for his hard work and ability and more importantly a massive 500 points earned on the grading list, the highest points earned by anyone in the club for 2015.

The other major club award was shared this year with Malcolm Peters and Murray Gleeson recognised for their hours of volunteered time, effort and enthusiasm given to the club this year. They were jointly awarded the Best All Round Club Member trophy for 2015.

It was a good finish to what has been a successful year for the club that has just celebrated securing the funding to improve and refurbish the club lounge.
