Taihape's Hayden Smith finished on top of the points for the 125cc class at the opening round of the NZ Motocross Championships near Timaru on Sunday.
With Nagtea's Ben Broad not defending his title this season, it left the way clear for Smith and Karaka's Kurtis Lilly, with Smith gettingthe nod with his 1-2-1 results from the three races, ahead of Lilly's 2-1-2. N
Nelson's Hayden Wilkinson finished third for the day on the difficult track at Pleasant Point.
