The Kaierau Rugby Club will host hard contact of a different kind tomorrow morning with the NZ Local Series of speedball paintball.
Teams from Rotorua through to Wellington will be coming for the event, which serves as a precursor to the national paintball championships in Wanganui next month.
Speedball isa team event using obstacles for attack and defence under "capture the flag" rules.
One team must take the flag from the centre of the course and hang it on their opposition's base, while players are eliminated if they get hit.
"It's near impossible [to hang the flag] with both full teams still standing, although occasionally a guy gets it by going kamikaze up the middle," said spokesman Ben Androutsos.
"The idea is to eliminate them and hang the flag."
Players are allowed to use their own customised weapons, although these must be within the national body's laws, which don't allow for fully automatic paintball guns.
The series will start at 8am and finish around 3.30pm.
