"This year's ceremony has a fantastic drawcard with Ben Hurley from television's 7 Days as guest MC and event organisers have no worries about ticket sales.
"However, the event's viability is made possible only by nominations for awards."
Although attending the November ceremony at the Wanganui Racecourse remains hugely popular and a fun night out, Sport Wanganui says the "lacklustre" effort for people from the Wanganui, Rangitikei and Ruapehu regions to put forward the deserving coaches, athletes, administrators, clubs and referees makes for a stressful time.
"We appreciate those who have nominated for the awards already but it does make us nervous when we receive so little with only a short time left to nominate," said event co-ordinator Gemma Bartley.
"This is a fantastic way to recognise the successes of our sports people and we know there are so many worthy.
"We have made the nomination process as easy as we can so, if you're thinking of nominating, please do - it doesn't take long."
Anyone can submit a nomination and there is no limit to the number from each sport, providing the criteria are met.
The qualifying period covers achievements made from October 1, 2013 through to September 30 this year.
Categories are national junior sportsperson, international junior sportsperson, national senior, international senior, club of the year, coach of the year, junior team, senior team, masters award and the new category of disabled sportsperson.
There are also the services to sport recognition award and the volunteer roll of honour.
Full details of each category can be found on the nomination form, which can be picked up at the Sport Wanganui offices at 40 Maria Place in town or downloaded from the website.
For entries, visit www.sportwanganui.co.nz.
Nominations will close at midnight on Friday.
The awards dinner will be at the Wanganui Racecourse on November 21.
