Marton trainer Fraser Auret claimed the trophy he has coveted as both his Princes delivered in the $50,000 Listed Ag Challenge WFA Stakes at Wanganui Racecourse on Saturday.

With three rides in the nine-horse field for the 1600m feature, Auret's Julinsky Prince, with jockey Darryl Bradley, and Thorn Prince, with Johnathon Parkes, were both looking healthy contenders against the favourite Iamishwara and Wanganui's own Taurus (Jonathan Riddell), which picked up a lot of late money from the punters.

And Julinksy Prince repaid all that confidence.

Settling in behind early leader Bella's Delight, with Taurus following them, Bradley took the galloper to the outside as the field bunched up, then powered home on the railing to win by two lengths, with Taurus coming second and Thorn Prince making a late charge to claim a close third.

On the slow track, the pace had been steady and then made for a hot finish in 1m 40s, with Julinsky Prince bringing in $7.40 for the win.

"The horse did a great job and I was just a lucky pilot," said Bradley, who had picked up the ride after Parkes made the choice of Thorn Prince following a training run on all three Auret mounts.

"Earlier in the run, I thought, 'he's doing a little too much'.

"But he was comfortable. Just hug the rail, saved a lot of ground and he just put pace on them.

"He's a jockey's dream."

Accepting the trophy on behalf of owner John Bromley, Auret said he would "absolutely" take a first and third performance. "It never worried me which one, so long as one of them had their head in front," he said.

"Growing up in Wanganui, this is a fantastic race - one that I've always hoped to have won."

Julinksy Prince will now go have a well-deserved rest in the spelling paddock, having been up for a long time.

It was back-to-back triumph for Bradley as he had also just ridden New Plymouth trainer Allan Sharrock's Madonna Mia to victory in the Barber Groundspray Foxton Cup Open 2040m in the race beforehand.

After the early leaders were Wanganui horses Thatz David (Shaun McKay), Mischievous Mis (Rebecca Goldsbury) and Duffers Creek (Kelly Myers), Mischievous Mis held the advantage until the final turn, when Madonna Mia powered home through a gap left inside.

Mis and Thatz David took the minor honours.

The Foxton Cup has been held in Wanganui due to the repairs being done at the Foxton racecourse after the 2011 fires.

Wanganui operations manager Bret Field said that will continue for at least the next 2-3 years as Foxton received an insurance payout for the damage around $600,000 less than was expected.

The club will still hold summer race meetings in Foxton using marquee tents.
