RAPID RUN: Whanganui's Rivers team posted the quickest time of all divisions at the Central Drag Racing Nationals in Taupo to take the title.
A personal best at a rained off dress rehearsal for the Central Drag Racing Nationals in Taupo proved a real confidence booster for Whanganui's River Rat team.
The Rivers team had posted a personal best 6.58 second run clocking a top speed of 345km/h (215mph) before the lead-up meeting at
the Masterton Motorplex was washed out.
The slick time gave the family team high hopes of improving even further at the Central Nationals in Taupo on Tuesday last week.
Patriarch Grant Rivers from Rivers Speed and Spares, qualified the Chev-powered dragster, but found the surface extremely slippery. The choice was made to detune the supercharged engine to combat the lack of traction.
With son Adrian at the controls, the dragster progressed through to win the competition division final with a rapid 6.8 second pass at a top speed of 331km/h (206mph).
