The River City Rollers have brought back the Christmas theme for their last jam of the year when they take on the long-travelling Timaru Derby Games at Jubilee Stadium tomorrow night.

The Fright Before Christmas Vol2 is the club's first festive-season themed jam since 2012.

Rollers coach and former New Zealand player Mel McGhie said it was a rare opportunity for their club to host an inter-island fixture, as costs being what they are means smaller 'leagues' usually just challenge their near neighbours.

"They've come quite a way.

"Last time we travelled to Nelson, earlier in the year, particularly for something different.

"You get more experience, skating against different leagues.

"You don't find the little leagues will travel. It is rare."

The squad will be confident after their 192-102 victory over the Kapiti Coast Derby Collective (KCDC) at the Ngā Purapura - Lifestyle Advancement Centre in Otaki in early November.

Christine Alderton, aka Carma Getya, received the captain's choice award, while the best jammer was Denise West (Indy Way) and top blocker was Shirleen Ashworth (Smashworth).

"Basically just said to the girls to carry on what we've been doing," said McGhie.

"We've been gelling well as a team."

The club will be taking part in the Whanganui Christmas Parade and then heading straight to Jubilee Stadium to begin preparations.

Doors open at 6pm with the game starting at 7pm.

Tickets are $5 adult, under 14's $2, and under 5's free.
