While local boy Haze Reweti was among the try scorers, it was not a happy Sunday afternoon for his Central Vipers as they were hammered 66-14 by the Wellington Orcas in their second round game of the 2015 NZRL National Premiership, played at Springvale Park.
The Orcas led 34-0 athalftime after centre Joseph Oti scored a double, and he added three more tries in the second half.
The Dion Te Ahu-coached Vipers knew they would be in for a tough day after they lost to the same team in pre-season 50-12, but they were unable to improve on that effort as the capital team ran in 13 tries.
Reweti, Manawatu's Rakai Tuheke and Taranaki's Codie Christensen scored their consolation tries in the second half.
The changing tides of the national premiership is clear, given that in 2014 the Vipers beat the Orcas 32-22 in Porirua.
