WANGANUI'S rowing clubs are in full swing as the season gears towards nationals next month.
In early December Aramoho Wanganui Rowing Club, Union Boat Club and Wanganui Collegiate School all attended the Clifton regatta with AWRC claiming the cup.
AWRC and UBC then ventured to the Hawke's Bay regatta earlierthis month and came back with some great results.
AWRC coach Ian Weenink said the main focus was the North Island champs and then nationals a fortnight later next month.
He said the club had been rowing well across the board and it was difficult to pick standouts. "I think right throughout the club from the seniors to the age-group, they all performing well. We're one of the strongest clubs in the North Island at this stage," he said.
"We've got good numbers going down there and the club's in good heart. I would say it's the strongest it's been in quite a few years."
AWRC has been fundraising for the nationals in Twizel. Each rower needs to raise $1000 to cover transport, entry fees, food and accommodation for the regatta.
The club was helped out with the marshalling at the national 4WD competition earlier this month. Over 35 members attended two training sessions to be able to marshal, support and roll over the 4WD vehicles when they flipped.
