Nelson businessman Norm Rapson has taken up the challenge to drive the Wanganui Golf Club to greener pastures.
The Wanganui board has appointed Rapson to the new position of Golf Director and Facility Manager which will encompass the roles of retiring golf professional Clive Johnson and club manager Keith Stewart, whose position has been dis-established.
Board chairman Graeme Meyers said Rapson is a passionate 6 handicap golfer who has a history of volunteer involvement in golf administration.
"He is currently a member of the Nelson Golf Club and organises and promotes the Nelson Regional Order of Merit and Senior and Junior Pennant competitions," Meyers said.
"Norm and his wife Glenda have family in the Manawatu region and are keen to move to Wanganui to be closer to grandchildren. From a business perspective, Norm is an experienced manager and team leader of the Nelson branch of an Auckland-based company and has a background in marketing in the areas of food service and distribution.
"This management expertise, a track record of building relationships with customers and community groups, together with an enthusiasm for the promotion of golf, makes him the ideal person to take on this new role with our club.
"He is enthusiastic to take up the challenge and will be commencing work with us on November 13 so that he is familiar with the club and its workings prior to Clive's retirement at the end of the month," Meyers said.
