This evening's open class 520m event (Race 10) presents an interesting blend of the proven chasers being taken on by some up-and-coming greyhounds.

Miss Eldora is part of the proven squad as she is a Group 1 winner at this venue, plus she contested last Thursday's Group 1 Wanganui Cup.

She was impeded when leaving the 520m traps and then she copped a terminal check when racing into the first turn.

Miss Eldora owns natural early pace and using that asset can see this Angela Turnwald-prepared chaser extracting her revenge in this event.

Cawbourne Cooks must break quickly from the eight-trap and by doing so he can use his vast experience to telling effect for his conditioner Matt Roberts.

His litter and kennelmate Cawbourne Spree is giving away a slice of class here, however she appeals as the type who can spice up the race combos here.

Palmerston North trainer Lisa Ahern has made a flying start to the new season, having already prepared 29 winners prior to yesterday's racing.

She has accepted with both experienced and promising chasers in this line-up.

Our Gypsy is proven and last Friday's Wanganui Cup reserve can use her known early speed to punch forward onto the pace.

She has no option to but to do so after stepping from trap-seven as she is likely to seek out the rail.

Although currently graded at C4, kennelmate Timma Turtle can graduate into the open class chasing ranks by taking out this race.

He faces his stiffest career test here, while seeking to maintain his unbeaten six-race record since crossing the Tasman.

Timma Turtle has won all three of his Hatrick 520m assignments, including his free-wheeling easy 30.12s win last Friday.

He has drawn nicely in trap-two to further expand his sequence.

Another Ahern contender is Ready Made Sized.

She is proving rather hard to follow, although a repeat of her best 520m winning time here - a smart 30.03s - can see her featuring at the business end.
