WHAT a cracker of an open class 520m field that has been carded at the Hatrick Raceway this evening.

The Dogzone C4/5 (Race 9, 8.09pm) is chock full of class where a stakes earning claim can be made for all eight drawn runners.

Adding real spice to the event is the looming paw wrestle between Angvella and Cawbourne Crouch.

Angvella, from the powerful Lisa Ahern kennels, has been strongly contesting recent Auckland 527m races at the March venue of his potent Auckland Cup victory.

He has proven real tough to get past when he adopts the pace-making duties.

The Matt Roberts prepared Cawbourne Crouch is in scintillating current form.

We saw that when he stylishly won the recent North Island Challenge Stakes over 457m at Group 2 level in Palmerston North.

He then went on to stylishly win a Cambridge feature 457m race, disposing of a quality field in doing so.

Both greyhounds are strong on-the-pace chasers and with both being drawn alongside each other says that a potential drag race can eventuate here.

As mentioned, the stake claims don't end with this pair. Ahern has three other talented greyhounds accepted in this event.

Mammy Brown owns early pace and she has drawn to deliver on that asset from the ace-trap here - a trap from where she owns a respectable record from.

Ritza Danny is a match-fit and race-hardened greyhound after having mixed his recent races with staying events.

Check The Mail owns a powerful finish and although he lacks early pace, he is likely to be sighted doing his best work at the business end here.

Angela Turnwald has a solid pair of chasers engaged tonight. Grader Jack is a recent open class graduate who brings sound track form into this race.

Coolabah Blue secures the outside trap here from where the Auckland Cup finalist must propel himself forward as soon as the traps lift. He will make things interesting if he is seen vying for the pace when racing into the all-important first turn.

Completing the drawn field is the Nathan Udy-trained Fabio who was another Auckland Cup finalist. His Auckland commitments meant he hasn't had an opportunity to race at Hatrick since he crossed the Tasman.

His track debut tonight adds a degree of intrigue to this contest.
