Palmerston North athletes dominated the opening day of the Manawatu Wanganui Athletics Centre cross-country season at Scoutlands on Monday.
To celebrate the season opening, the Wanganui Harriers Club hosted the annual Anzac Day relays over 1km, 1.5km and 2km courses at Scoutlands on the shores of Lake Wiritoa for bothrunners and walkers catering for all ages.
WHC spokesman Bill Charnock said the Palmerston North Athletics and Harrier Club's (PNAHC) No1 team claimed the men, women and walker classes.
"It was the fifth time in a row the PNAHC women's team had won and the fourth for the men, they are usually quite dominant," Charnock said yesterday. Teams also arrived from Feilding, Hawera and Egmont to join Wanganui and Palmerston North harriers in the celebrations.
"The numbers were perhaps not as great as last year, but there was still a good number turn out and we were pretty happy with that," Charnock said.
