Three days of close competition amongst the boys in blue culminated on Wednesday afternoon for the NZ Police Golf Championships, held at Castlecliff Golf Club.

Supported by the Police Sport body and local sponsors, the championships saw 105 serving and retired police officers take part in four rounds of golf, with abilities ranging from +1 handicaps through to 40.

Winners were found for Gross and Overall Net divisions.

Spokesman Neil Forlong said the first two days with the wind made for challenging play, but Wednesday had beautiful conditions as the games went later on into the afternoon to find the winners.

"It was a great success and the comments were the greens were in great nick," said Forlong.

Elton Nicholson who plays at Boulcott's Farm Heritage Golf Club in Wellington, won the Gross. He shot a combined score of 286, two over par.

Wanganui Golf Club's Andrew McDonald won the Overall Net with a great score well under his 21 handicap.

"He was miles under the card," said Forlong.
