Whanganui golfing sensation Tara Raj eclipsed even the men's performances on her way to winning both the U15 and U19 women's titles at the Manawatu Wanganui Age Group Championships on Sunday.

Just a day after her 14th birthday the Wanganui Collegiatre schoolgirl shot a 4-under par in the first round (70) and then an even round (74) in the afternoon session of the 36-hole championship despite the wet conditions.

These were by far the best scores of both the women's and men's competition.
Taranaki's Tineka Kumeroa finished second carding 80 and 76, while Feilding's Liam Finlayson won the U19 men's trophy with scores of 72 and 75.

Raj is the current Wanganui women's champion, won the Horowhenua/Kapiti Open, the Manawatu Wanganui Strokeplay title and is the Manawatu Wanganui No1 for the Toro competition where she went through unbeaten until the finals days. Raj was also Manawatu Wanganui Eagles Golfer of the Year last year, a title she also won the year before.

The 4-under on Sunday morning was her best score ever and helps drop her handicap from 1.6 down to 0.4.

Earlier this month Raj and her younger sister Sera won a shot to showcase their considerable talents on the world stage after winning their respective grades in the US Kids Golf Tournament in Wellington.

Then 13, Tara won the 14-year grade, while younger sister Sera, 9, claimed the 10-year division title.

The wins qualified the sister act to represent New Zealand at the prestigious US Kids World Championship tournament at the Pinehurst club in August.
