The feature event at Hatrick tonight is the $8000 New Zealand Racing Series Graduation final (Race 9, 8.35pm).

Five 520-metre heats, held last Friday evening, decided this final, with promising chasers making up the field of New Zealand-bred greyhounds.

The Canterbury-based Opawa Racing team dominates, with four of their-bred-and-owned chasers qualifying.

It was Opawa Stella who clocked the swiftest heat time when she slipped around in 30.39 seconds for her trainers, Robin Wales and Josh Lane. However, she will need a smart beginning from the eight trap here.

The Dave and Jean Fahey-prepared Opawa Amy was equally impressive in winning her heat in 30.40s.

She took control when racing into the back straight, then scampered away to deliver her 7.25-length heat win. Drawing trap two here has greatly enhanced her claims.

Opawa Karen, also prepared by the Fahey's, won her heat in 30.47s, after she took over the pace when entering the final bend. She extended to hold a comfortable 4.5-length margin at the judge.

Completing the Opawa Racing representation here is the 30.72s heat winner Opawa Rocky.

He is also mentored by the Fahey's and is capable of making his presence felt.

Looking to spoil the Opawa party is the inexperienced but promising All In Berlin, locally trained by Brian Marsh.

She checked out the 520m trip for the first time when contesting her heat.

It was a stylish winning effort as she impressed by delivering her pace-making 30.64s win.

All in Berlin has scope for improvement following that and drawing trap one suggests she can be a thorn in the side of the Opawa squad.

Lisa Ahern produced a couple of heat runner-ups, including Semantics, who gamely chased Opawa Stella when winding up a 5.25-length heat second.

Kennelmate Bigtime Jet has been a consistent chaser in the River City for a long time.

In this instance he occupied the midfield pack until reaching the final turn, from where he stoutly pressed on to claim his three-quarter length heat second behind All In Berlin.

Completing the drawn field and copping the worst of the box draw after being allocated trap five is the Don Kettlewell and Nev Phillips-trained My Lil Lucifer.

She was gallant when she led her heat down the back straight before being gathered in by Opawa Karen to finish a 4.5-length heat in second.
