It is also a lot of fun but the sports do not have to be conventional for the 2015 edition of the Southern Trust New Zealand Masters Games in Wanganui this February.
Sport Wanganui has announced a new 'Urban Assault' event which it promises is designed "especially for the bold, the brave, and the mentally astute".
Having run successful obstacle-based events for children such as the Tough Kid challenges, Sport Wanganui is now bringing a similar event for the young-at-heart.
Held at Cooks Gardens, entrants will be challenged to climb, jump, slide, tumble, crawl and navigate however they can through man-made and natural obstacles. Not just a matter of brawn, brains will be required as the course will also include some mind puzzles to be solved along the way.
"The Urban Assault will be a great activity for corporate groups and workplace teams to enter," said Sport Wanganui's event manager Rachel O'Connor. "Participants can expect to be challenged mentally and physically, while making the most of a great Wanganui venue."
The Urban Assault will be open to individuals aged 30-years and over, and for individuals and teams made up of two women and two men.
For team racing, all four members must complete the course as a group, crossing the line together.
It will take place on February 4, from 6-8pm. Cost of entry is $25 per person with a NZ Masters Games registration. Entries are open now and with a deadline of February 1, although competitors are encouraged to get in before January 9 to avoid a late entry fee.
