NEW ZEALAND DUTY: Wanganui East Club petanquers (from left) Peter Hamilton, Christine Strichen, Lew Gill and Sheryl Parslow have been called up for national duties against Australia.
Four Wanganui East Club petanque adjunct members have been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2016 Trans Tasman Challenge in Alexandra on March 19-20.
They are Christine Strichen who has represented New Zealand several times, Pete Hamilton (aka Pete the Pieman), a well known petanquer, Sheryl Parslow, a firsttime national representative and Lew Gill, who has recently moved to Whanganui and joined the club.
Recent form has played a big part in their selection with Strichen winning the National Women's Triples Championship in Kapiti on Waitangi weekend with Sharon Cannon. Parslow was third equal with Yvonne Futcher.
Strichen also won the Auckland Regional Women's Doubles title in January with Masterton's Claire Wilson, while Hamilton was in the men's team that came third in the Men's Triples at the same venue.
Hamilton was also runner-up in the Kapiti Open Doubles in January with Cannon, while Parslow teamed with Dene Futcher to win the bowl.
